Sponsored netballers 5th in Super Club tournament

One of ACT’s sponsored athletes, Emily Nicholl, who plays with Glasgow-based UWS Sirens, has described the recent Super Club competition as “one of my most enjoyable netball experiences to date”.

Emily and Nicola McCleery, who is also sponsored by ACT, were part of a team that was invited to New Zealand to play in the prestigious pre-season tournament.

UWS Sirens finished the Super Club competition with two wins in their last two fixtures, coming fifth overall.

The UWS Sirens team was invited to play in New Zealand.

Emily was also awarded the Player of the Match during the team’s last game.

Emily said: “The competition was an invaluable opportunity for us Scots to play against a variety of styles in the lead up to next year’s World Cup.

“The competition itself was a lot of fun with the added excitement and new tactics surrounding the ‘2pt shot’.

“Our final game was against Marama Vou, a Fiji/Samoa/NZ team. They had beaten us in the group stages and in the final it was a physical game that went goal for goal. In the fourth quarter, I re-entered the game at goal defence with the strategy of taking  their star 2point shooter out the game.

Emily and Nicola are sponsored by ACT Construction (UK) Ltd.

“The Sirens were victorious, which saw us placing fifth overall, and with only the New Zealand teams and the Australian team ranking higher than us.

“Being named POM for the last match was a surprise and it topped off an incredible week with a brilliant group of girls.

“I was gifted a Spirit of Nelson ring made by Jens Hansen, the ring maker who made The Ring for the Lord of the Rings movie. It is such a beautiful piece of jewellery, which I now have as a memento of this brilliant tournament.”
