It’s just over 40 days until the start of the European Championships 2018 in Glasgow and top Scottish swimmer Ross Murdoch, who is sponsored by Act Construction (UK) Ltd, is looking forward to racing in front of a home crowd.
Ross, who lives in Stirling, is one of the big hopes for home success at the new multi-sport European Champs 2018.
Glasgow is co-hosting the event, from August 1 to 12, with Berlin in Germany.
The athletics events will take place in Germany, while Glasgow will play host to aquatics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, triathlon and golf.
We caught up with Ross this week. He has just returned from a short swimming tour of Spain and France and he heads to Rome next week to race.
He said: “Training has been going great since I returned from the Gold Coast. My recent trip to Spain and France allowed me to work on my race craft for the 100m and 200m breaststroke, which will be the events I am racing in Glasgow this summer.
“And the trip to Rome will be the last chance I have to race before the European Champs start so this feels like I am getting right into the business end of the competition season.”
On Instagram last week, Ross, who won gold in the 200m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games 2014 held in Glasgow, said he felt lucky to have another chance to race in front of a home crowd.
He said: “I cant wait to do it again.”
Ross is a Glasgow 2018 sporting ambassador. He is also an ambassador for Strathmore Water, which is a partner for the event.
At the launch of the partnership, he said: “I know how passionate the crowds will be across the six sports being staged in Scotland as part of Glasgow 2018 and I know that the crowds in Berlin will be just the same.
“It’s brilliant that such big names like Strathmore Water are throwing their support behind this inaugural event.”
ACT is very proud to sponsor Ross. He was a silver medallist in the Gold Coast 2018 earlier this year. We will be keeping you updated about Ross’s training progress and his races at the European Championships 2018.
