The Scottish Hockey women’s team, including two ACT sponsored athletes Kaz Cuthbert and Robyn Collins, have won their fifth and final test match against Wales as they prepare for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

The Scottish team won four of the five matches in the series and gave away just one goal overall.

Now the women will be looking towards February 14 when the team will be announced for the Gold Coast.

Confident match by Scottish ladies

In the recent match, Scotland who took lead in the second quarter when Becky Merchant scored. It was 1-1 at the end of the half before Scotland again too control of the match.

Ali Howie made it 2-1 for Scotland and a third goal was almost scored in the final quarter but it was blocked on the line by the Welsh defence.

Scotland women’s Head Coach Gordon Shepherd said (Scottish Hockey website): “It’s been a very pleasing competitive series and both sides have got a lot out of it. I’m delighted to have won four out of the five matches, drawn one, and only conceded one goal, which was a penalty stroke. These are positive signs.

“We’ll now focus on training as usual and continue to work hard as we build towards selection for April’s Commonwealth Games.”
