The Commercial Manager at ACT, Derek Bain, is a keen road cyclist and next month he will participate in the inaugural Arran Cycle Challenge.
Organised by the Rangers Charity Foundation, the new Arran Cycle Challenge offers two routes, one of 55 miles and one of 32 miles. Derek will be taking on the longest route, which circuits the entire island on Scotland’s west coast. It features fantastic views but also several big hills!
Derek says: “I am really looking forward to the cycle although I know there will be lots of ups and downs on the round-Arran route. I know it will be quite a challenge but I am up for it.”
He adds: “Not only will the Arran Cycle be a personal challenge, it will also assist me in my training for my other event this year, the London Ride 100.”
The Arran Cycle Challenge aims to raise funds for charity partners of the Rangers Charity Foundation. This season they are working with Glasgow City Mission, the Simon Community, the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Beatson Cancer Charity, Breast Cancer Care, four services-related charities and children’s charity Unicef.
Derek says: “I hope to get as many people as possible to contribute a little towards this challenge, which is raising funds for many deserving projects.
“Knowing that people have pledged money will also help me with motivation as I train for the event and when I am halfway up a hill in Arran with my legs screaming at me.”
