ACT Construction (UK) Ltd commercial manager Derek Bain is delighted with his new commuter bicycle bought as part of the Bike2Work Scheme.

ACT operates the Bike2Work Scheme to encourage staff to use a bike to get to and from the office.

Derek chose to buy a Cannondale Caadx 105 gravel cross-style bike and he has added 38mm “all-road” tyres to suit the variety of paths that he uses to get to and from work. He rides 25km each way.

Derek says: “The bike is perfect for my commute because I come from Cambuslang via the Clyde & Loch Lomond Cycle Way.  The first part of the ride is on gravel and the second part from Glasgow Green onwards is tarmac and then road from Jordanhill to Anniesland.

“I wanted a bike and tyres that would cope with all these different surfaces and so far it has been great.

“I used to use a flat bar hybrid bicycle for commuting but I prefer drop bars and this bike fitted the bill for a winter commuter.”

He added: “I like being able to use my bike to get to the office because it keeps me fit and saves me driving through busy commuter traffic. The Bike2Work Scheme is a great way to save money, too.”

Earlier this year, another staff member Scott Weir bought a bike for getting to work, too.
