Anna Smrckova, the Business Development and Client Manger at ACT Construction (UK) Ltd, was delighted to be able to present a fund-raising cheque for cancer charity, Beatson Pebble Appeal, after a Munro walking challenge.

Anna, along with her friend Emma Martin and dog Archie, took part in the annual Glasgow University Munros Challenge, which aims to have as many groups of walkers on the tops of Scotland’s 282 Munros each summer.

Anna, right, hands the cheque to Hilda from the University of Glasgow.

Anna raised £275, which she handed to Hilda De Groot, from the University of Glasgow, last week.

Anna said: “I caught the Munro walking bug after climbing my first Munro, Ben Vorlich, in February 2017. In the past, I have always taken part and thoroughly enjoyed fundraising in a team for charity, however, I had never fundraised on my own.

“I loved the idea of Glasgow University Munros Challenge, raising funds for a worthwhile cancer charity while challenging myself to hike two Munros in one day. The two Munros we hiked were Beinn Ime and Beinn Narnain in the Arrochar Alps.

“It was great to be able to hand over a cheque for The Beatson Pebble Appeal.”

Anna had personal reasons for raising funds for The Beatson Pebble Appeal, which supports ground-breaking cancer research at the University of Glasgow.

She said: “Cancer affects so many people and I lost my god father to the disease and have also seen friends suffering after losing loved ones. I think the Munro Challenge is a very worthwhile cause and I hope more people will sign up to take part.”

Anna also won a photo competition with a photo of her dog Archie on the summit of one of Munro, Beinn Ime.
