It was fascinating to watch the recent BBC2 programme, Inside the Factory, which revealed some surprising facts about Britain’s favourite foods – and took a look behind the scenes at Europe’s largest fresh milk dairy, Arla Aylesbury.

ACT (UK) Construction Ltd has a strong connection with Arla after we supplied and installed the composite panel walling throughout their dairy and distribution facility.

ACT were appointed by the main contractors, Caddick Construction, to undertake all internal composite panel walls and ceilings, a project that extended to more than 60,000m2 of fire-rated Eurobond Laminates mineral wool panels.

ACT (UK) Construction Ltd installed the composite panel walls and ceilings at Arla.

Prior to working on the Arla flagship dairy, ACT had worked on their Stourton and Westbury dairies, both undergoing multi-million pound extension and upgrades.

The BBC programmes focused on the production processes of kitchen essentials, such as bread and chocolate, as well as milk.

Gregg Wallace is known for presenting MasterChef and now, Inside the Factory.

In one of the programmes, the presenter Gregg Wallace, who is also known for co-presenting MasterChef, took a closer look at how milk is produced.

Did you know that Brits consume 20 million litres of milk every day and that this milk comes from almost two million cows?

Arla Ayslesbury processes 650 million litres of milk each year and some 1.5 million litres of milk pass through the dairy every day. That’s enough to fill two jumbo jets if you want to try to imagine the quantity.

Each of the Arla Ayslesbury milk fillers runs at 17,000 bottles an hour, which is the same as 4.7 bottles per second.
